History of Virgaard

Army of Virgaard

Origins - 1001 to 1003 AC Times of Peace - 1010 to 1014 AC
Abdication - 1007 AC Wrath of the Immortals - 1014 AC
War against Etengar - 1008 AC

The Principality of Virgaard was created in 1003 AC thanks to an Act of Enfeoffment, approved by the Council in the Baroness of Mithrandyl's favor, Lady Altaïs Lendyl.

The Principality is ruled by the House of Mithrandyl, a mixed elven and human family.

Origins - 1001 to 1003 AC

The Barony of Mithrandyl was founded in 1001 AC by Lady Altaïs Lendyl, ambassador of Wolfland to Glantri at that time. As grand-daughter in law of the Master of The Great School, Lord Grummash current Prince of Braejr, and a close friend of Prince Kogaratsu, she soon made friends (and foes) among the Glantrian nobles. She finally founded her barony, building her keep, the Tower of Mithrandyl close to the wendarian border.

Shortly afterward, in 1003 AC, an Act of Enfeoffment was to proclaim her Princess of Virgaard, thanks to several sponsors as well as the proper magical spells. The creation of this new principality was also supported by the majority of the Council of Princes wanting the northern region of the Land to be firmly administrated by strong dominions in order to help preventing any invasion from Ethengar or from Heldann.

Abdication  - 1007 AC

Princess Altaïs immediatly took part to the elven lobby but after a short rule of four years she finally decided to join her husband Grummir, as he had just become Emperor of Wolfland. She thus abdicated in her son's favor, the young Vaëlmir, who had recently graduated from the Great School, with incredible success. In spite of his young age, 17 at that time (1007 AC), Prince Vaëlmir prooved himself a good ruler, utterly loyal to the Council and the system of the Principalities. Thanks to his loyalty he managed to gain allies but also many foes. Shortly after becoming Prince of Virgaard, he married Lady Rowena Krollnar, the beautiful viscountess of Bergen, and gradually rallied a few nobles to the House.

The War against Ethengar and Thyatis - 1008 AC

Before and during the war against the Golden Khanate and Thyatis, he tried to convict Prince Morphail of Boldavia for vampirism and treason, but the fiend seamed to have blackmailed a part of the Council, and the motion did not pass the vote... Meanwhile, he also managed to get the Heldanner rebels' support as well as Wendar's help to counter up the ethengarian army, which revealed priceless against the powerful magic of the Khan's shamens. Unhappily, Glantrian armies were overwhelmed by the power of Ethengarian Shammans, Glantri was defeated !!!

Vaëlmir decided to stay in Glantri, falsely owing allegeance to The Golden Khan, still entertaining the hope of restoring the former Council and Principalities one day. During this troubled time, he managed to increase his power, by gaining new territories as well as new nobles for the House. He also led a secret army of rebels, thus preventing the Khan to take entire control over the Principalities.

Times of Peace - 1010 to 1014 AC

After the Khan's death and the destruction of Glantri City, the House of Mithrandyl became one of the most influent and wealthy houses in Glantri, and still is. The Prince had greatly contributed to restore the Nation and the new capital city Ambreville.

In 1010 AC, Altaïs came back to Glantri, from Wolfland where a civil war had begun, and was appointed by Prince Vaëlmir, now Chancellor of the Princes, as the new ambassador to Wendar, with the mission of establishing a firm political and commercial relationship between the two neighbours. She managed to do so and returned to the Principalities competing for the vacant County of High Sonden. Thanks to her many friends, she gained the title, thus becoming one of the closest nobles from the capital Ambreville.

Wrath of the Immortals

In 1014 AC, tensions rose between Alphatia and Thyatis, leading to a conflict in which every nation of the Known World and the continent of Brun had to take a more or less important part. Glantri tried to remained neutral but sided secretly with Thyatis. Important events occured in Glantri and alphatian spied were spotted all over the nation, particularly in the ancient location of Glantri City, within the Crater of Braejr. Alfheim was being invaded by demons and evil dark elves, slaughtering every village. In the mean time, Rad disapeared, being slain by an entity controlled by other Immortals opposing him. The most influent Houses of the Land allied themselves at last to counter the threat but some of them, and mostly the House of Mithrandyl had to face a dramatic fatality. Prince Vaëlmir was killed during a mysterious duel against a huge dragon, simultaneously Princess Rowena revealed herself a doppleganger (the true one had been abducted some time before, none to be aware of it), while Lady Altaïs, countesse of High Sonden disappeared mysteriously during a rescue mission to Alfheim where she was pursuing the traitor Malachie du Marais...

The House was then ruled by Princess Wynona (8 years-old) under the regency of family members: Sir Cyd Lendyl, former prince's uncle and First Regent, Sir Thalaric, the latter's twin brother, and Sir Tyrson Krollnar, Princess Rowena's brother.

The Council of Princes then decided to send a party of mighty adventurers in a mission for recovering ancient elven artefacts, and thus helping Alfheim to counter up the plague killing the Trees of Life and to eradicate the mysterious invaders.

During this mission, Lady Ithîldin, half-daughter to Prince Vaëlmir and special agent of the Council, manage to free the true Princess Rowena. She also discovered her mother, trapped in a parallel dimension plane, and thanks to the help of Ezechiel Naramis, she manage to get her mother back. But  Ithîldin and Ezechiel were trapped themselves and had not yet managed to escape.

The Principality is now ruled by Princess Rowena, who prooves herself a strong-willed ruler, a priceless quality during these troubled times...
